1. What is expected of delegates at the FACES Annual Summit?
Please read the Delegate Expectations Agreement for full details but listed below are key expectations to take note of:
Delegates are encouraged to return to their hosts’ rooms by 11:00pm each night to ensure that they are well-rested for the day’s activities. This guideline is not meant to be a strictly enforced “curfew,” but rather a measure to ensure delegate safety and the smooth functioning of the Summit. Residential Ambassadors are also current Stanford students who need a good night’s rest.
Delegates should be considerate of their student hosts and refrain from making messes, being excessively noisy, or disturbing their hosts’ studies or sleep. Residential Ambassadors have generously volunteered to host delegates, and delegates are expected to respect them and their space.
Delegates are expected to comport themselves amicably and show respect for cultural differences. Delegates will not only collaborate, but will confront – new people, new ideas, new and unexplored uncertainties. Throughout this process, delegates are expected to support one another, especially when they are the source of one another’s challenge.
Delegates are expected to participate actively in all scheduled events. Frequent unexcused absences diminish the experiences of other delegates at the Summit and are a direct violation of Summit expectations. Absences will only be accepted in the case of extenuating circumstances.
Consumption of alcohol and recreational drugs is strictly prohibited during the Summit, even if you are of legal drinking age. FACES is required to abide by Stanford and Freeman Spogli Institute (FSI) policy, which prohibits alcohol consumption at student-initiated conferences. We will enforce this regulation strictly and pursue maximum penalties if any delegate is found in violation.
In case of emergency, contact Jenn & Cathy, or 911 if appropriate.
2. Why is the program free to accepted delegates?
The FACES U.S.-China Annual Summit is virtually free because of the generosity of FACES’ supporters and their commitment to engaging young thinkers.
3. Since there are no program fees will there be other expenses?
Program fees, meals, and accommodation are covered for those who are accepted into the program, but travel costs and incidentals are not.
Delegates are expected to make their own travel arrangements including ground transportation to and from campus. Additionally, parking is not offered to program participants. Uber and Lyft are popular travel options in the Bay Area and public transportation from San Francisco and San Jose airports is available via Caltrain (with connections to BART). Travel in and around campus can be done on the free Marguerite shuttle buses.
Delegates are also encouraged to bring spending money in USD for extra activities and shopping.

Please note that these residences may not have air conditioning.
